Harbor View House
East Hampton, New York

Comprehensive Architectural Renovation

The structural envelope for creating an amenity and art-laden modern home with a casual, simple beach-home feel was a recently purchased 1947 1-story house.  With a mid-century modern hip roof and sliding casement windows, the interior was akin to a 1920s hunting camp with pinewood walls and cabinetry.

Our primary objective was for the interior to be visually integrated with the outdoors.  Extensive oversized windows and doors -- framed in painted wood trim -- allowed water, landscape and sky views to be an everpresent reminder of the unusual hilltop upon which the house sat.
The understated interior is a backdrop for the ever -changing picturesque views. This meant a very restrained use of decoration and consistentency of surfaces and  materials throughout the house and a light, monochromatic palette.

Furnishings are a blend of existing family pieces, contemporary and vintage modern from the late 1960s and 1970s. Styles ranged from classic |iconic to unique whimsical tag sales finds. These were punctuated with casual, natural materials and a few beach accents.
